Maths
The 2014 National Curriculum gives an outline of what we teach in each year. Our medium-term mathematics plans are based upon the White Rose Maths Small Steps Document which details each individual objective taught in each unit of work, ensuring that lessons follow a clear, sequenced progression of skills.
At Our Lady’s, we use a variety of teaching and learning styles in mathematics. Through the use of the practise, apply and extend model, we aim to develop children’s mathematical knowledge, skills and understanding. In all our daily lessons we encourage children to ask, as well as answer mathematical questions. We encourage all pupils to use a range of mental strategies in Mathematics. Children have opportunities to use a wide range of resources, such as base 10, place value counters, number lines, number squares, digit cards and apparatus to support their work.
Below you will see some of the equipment we use in lessons.
